Professor Francis

Professor Francis L. Wellens is currently director of the departments of Cardiac Surgery of the Free University of Brussels and the General Hospital in Aalst Belgium. 

He received his medical degree from the University of Brussels in 1973 where he also completed his general- and cardiac surgery training. He extended his cardiac surgery training at The Texas Heart Institute Houston Tx. and at Stanford  University, Palo Alto Ca. 

 Was one of the pioneers in the OLV Clinic Aalst Belgium where he also started the Hearttransplant- and Heartfailure Clinic. 

Many Israeli patients were treated in his department. He was granted to become  a honorary citizen of the city of Tel Aviv-Jaffo. 

Professor F.Wellens is author or co-author in over 200 publications. His main interests are arrhythmia-, heartfailure- and minimal invasive surgery.
